NEW MILFORD, Connecticut – April 7, 2016 – A photographic exhibit featuring cancer survivors by local artist Wendy Carlson will be on display at New Milford Hospital from May 9th through June 30th. The exhibit is supported by the Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Office of the Arts and is titled Selections From The 50 Women Project which originated in partnership with Sister Soldiers Foundation, a non-profit advocacy group dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer issues.
“New Milford Hospital is pleased to partner with the Department of Economic and Community Development and the Connecticut Office of the Arts by hosting photographic Selections From The 50 Women Project,” said Thomas J. Koobatian, MD, Executive Director and Chief of Staff at New Milford Hospital. “The exhibit offers a unique and expressive way to demonstrate the courage, hope and dignity of women who have battled breast cancer.”
The photographs spotlight 18 large 3-scale environmental portraits of breast cancer survivors from northwestern Connecticut and beyond and are accompanied with personal narratives that illustrate poignantly and poetically how breast cancer has changed their lives in a meaningful and positive way.
New Milford Hospital’s cancer navigator Cindy Tyler, RN, OCN, CBCN, CN-BN, encourages everyone to visit the exhibit. “It’s a touching tribute that conveys a meaningful message to women about the importance of practicing early detection through monthly breast self-exams, annual clinical exams and yearly mammograms.” Tyler added, “The exhibit also exemplifies our core values - people before patients and where We Know You Well. We care that the true identity of a patient is not a diagnosis but a person who matters, makes a difference and will continue to live at the highest quality of life possible.”
