WCHN has teamed up with local YMCA's, as an extension of the Vitive Wellness Program, to promote health and wellness through a unique partnership which offers a wide-variety of program offerings. 

WCHN also offers Free Health Seminars on a monthly basis which are open to members of the YMCA and the community.

The intended outcomes of the partnership include:

  • Promote healthier lifestyle and awareness
  • Improve individual health outcomes
  • Reduced community medical costs through disease management - both individual and corporate
  • Add a level of connectivity and collaboration with WCHN range of specialty services
  • Develop schedule and facilitate ongoing  health lecture series for community awareness
  • Access to preventative health and wellness screenings
  • Discount off membership rates and $0 enrollment fee

At the Regional Y of Western Connecticut, their goal is to strengthen the communities they serve by reducing the effects of diabetes, obesity, heart disease and other preventable conditions. Many of these health issues can be effectively managed or even eliminated by healthy lifestyle behaviors such as better nutrition, increased levels of physical activity and smoking cessation.

WCHN employees who join the Regional Y of Western Connecticut will receive:

  • Access to preventative health and wellness screenings
  • Chronic disease management programs (see details below)
  • 10% discount off membership rates and $0 enrollment fee
  • One week trial membership offered during each quarterly enrollment period
  • Free on-premises child care while working out at the YMCA 

Chronic Disease Management Programs:

  • Diabetes Prevention Program- helps those at risk for developing type 2 diabetes by adopting healthy lifestyles and eating habits.
  • A New Beginning Cancer Recovery Wellness Program- designed specifically for cancer patients and survivors who are ready to begin an exercise regime or improve their current level of exercise.

WCHN has teamed up with the Riverbrook Regional YMCA to promote health and wellness through the Healthy Living Partnership. The partnership offers a wide-variety of program offerings for WCHN employees.

Ellen Ryan, RN, WCHN Wellness Coach, provides clinical guidance and connectivity to a range of WCHN specialty services.

Preventive Screenings and Chronic Disease Management Programs:

  • Diabetes Prevention Program – The program helps those at risk for developing type 2 diabetes by adopting healthy lifestyle and eating habits
  • Livestrong Program - A Cancer survivor exercise program with a focus on Cancer prevention and early detection
  • Enhance Fitness Program - Physical activity program designed for those suffering from Arthritis. Active Older Adults may also benefit along with those with limited mobility
  • Cardiac Care Program - Post cardiac rehab exercise monitoring/program-nutrition and physical activity designed to help those who have experienced a cardiac event or those at risk looking for assistance in preventing one from happening
  • Blood Pressure Self-monitoring Program – The program is an evidence-based program designed to help participants with hypertension lower their blood pressure.
  • Delay The Disease Program – This is a functional fitness program designed to empower people with Parkinson's disease by optimizing their physical function and helping to delay the progressions of symptoms.
  • Healthy Weight & Your Child Program – A wellness program designed for youth ages 7-13 who are in the 95% weight percentile
  • A Matter of Balance Program – This is an 8-week structured group intervention program for older adults. The program emphasizes practical strategies to reduce fear of falling, reduce fall risk factors and increase activity levels.
